This morning at 9.30 am The Hon Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi unveiled the statue of Basaveshwara.
Basaveshwara shares a conceptual relationship with Great Britain. He preached British values of freedom of speech, democracy, tolerance and equality of opportunity in the 12th century. The main aim of this project is to spread the message of Basaveshvara outside India and enhance the diversity of London. We want everyone to know that the idea of democracy was floated in India by Basaveshwara 700 years before Abraham Lincoln and he was someone who fought for civil liberties before Magna Carta was signed in Britain on 15th June 1215 AD.
The Friends of Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens were presented with a cheque for £ 250.000 by Dr Neeraj Patil on behalf of the Basaveshwara Foundation. Four members of the FoVPG were present to receive this generous donation, for which they are extremely grateful.
THANK YOU!!!!!!
